Halloween - 2008

It's Halloween time and malls are filled with crazy items. It's really weired to see skeletons hanging from mall roofs and horror faced masks lined-up on the shelves. People will purchase these items and will be putting in front or back yard. Kids will wear some of the costumes and will hover here and there like crazy.

Actually this Halloween is coinciding with our Pitru Paksha, where we remember our ancestors. Similarly here too this occasion is to remember the ancestors!! Isn't it amazing the countries so diverse are following the same concept?

Find below the slideshow-video of some of the photographs taken at nearby malls!!

Abhi,

Your blog is going well..keep it up.

But for your write up on hollowin (??..it's Halloween...!) and its not celebrated for the reasons you explained. for more details please refer to Wikipedia.

Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (Irish pronunciation: [ˈsˠaunʲ]; from the Old Irish samain).[1] The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes [2] regarded as the "Celtic New Year".[3] Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them

Now the title reads Halloween than Hollowin previously.
It's good information you have shared. Sure it will help others to understand the event better.
I am not changing contents of the posting.... your comment will clarify everything to readers.

Hi Abhijit & Shilpa, I have a good idea to embed in your blog. Now-a-days there are many radio/tv station in India which started casting there program over the net. There is a way to embed them in your web page. I am a radio lover from my child hood and listen to radio even today. I was surprised when the FM revolution took place in India in every city! Before that radio was going to face an extinction almost. Now people listen to FM radio as a regular. The inexpensive mobile phone sets in India now have option to listen to FM station. So radio is popular again. Now internet streaming made it further easy and popular.
one example is: http://www.hellogiri.com/listen-radio-mirchi-983-fm-online-indian-free-live-stream/

HAPPY BROADCASTING!!!!

Hello Amitava,
I tried to add the FM link in the side bar (Gadgets). However it did not work. I will need Java Script of the link.
However I have added few more gadgets to the Blog. I am afraid the Gadgets should not distract the visitors from main contents.
I might remove some of the gadgets depending on the comments from all of you.
